Colposcopy

A colposcopy is a procedure performed to further evaluate cells found on an abnormal pap smear. A colposcopy provides more information regarding the type of cell abnormality and helps guide the treatment plan. This procedure is performed in our office in the same manner as a pap smear. This procedure allows the physician to visualize the cervix through a colposcope to further assess any abnormalities. The physician may also decide to take small biopsies of any abnormal areas on the cervix.
