Evaluation and Treatment
A pap smear is a cervical screening test that looks for abnormal cells or precancerous cells on the cervix. Abnormal pap smears can be in varying stages of cell abnormalities. Some of the abnormalities are mild and require close monitoring while others are more significant requiring removal of the abnormal cells.
Anytime a pap smear comes back abnormal, further evaluation should be done to determine an appropriate treatment plan.
